We’re Bob and Sheila — married for more than fifty years and now beginning a new chapter in Victoria, British Columbia. Two Norths is our story of reinvention, rediscovery, and seeing the same place through two very different perspectives.
We are exploring expat and repatriation life in Canada through honest storytelling, practical insight, and the lived experience of a long marriage in motion.
Sheila, The Repat
For Sheila, the move was a return home. After fifty-seven years abroad, Canada feels both familiar and unfamiliar — like opening a long-forgotten trunk filled with memories that time has quietly reshaped.

After decades in California, Bob arrived in Canada as an American expat discovering everything for the first time — new systems, new routines, and the quiet challenge of starting over in your seventies.

Two Norths grew from a simple realization: even after fifty years together, a new place can reveal sides of each other you hadn’t noticed before. Here on Vancouver Island, life seems to move at a slightly different rhythm — shaped by water, forests, and the quiet pull of the Pacific. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, pay attention, and rediscover the small details that make a life.
As we explore this island together, we’re often looking at the same scene from slightly different angles. Still, after all these years, we’ve learned something important: The journey is richer when the story is shared.

Sometimes our perspectives align beautifully. Sometimes they don’t. Yet after more than fifty years of marriage, we’ve learned that the differences often make the story better.
